SMILE Suggestions for Choosing NIST-Certified Non-Mercury Thermometers

NIST-certified (traceable), non-mercury thermometers are used for verifying calibration and monitoring temperatures of laboratory space (ambient room temperature) and equipment (e.g. refrigerators, freezers, incubators, water baths, etc.). Many international laboratories working on DAIDS-funded studies have asked the Patient Safety Monitoring and International Laboratory Evaluation (SMILE) group for guidance on which of the many options for NIST-certified (traceable) thermometers they should consider. SMILE has provided an overview of the thermometers that are available with the examples divided into categories based on their possible uses.

Please note that the thermometers may be used for activities other than those listed in the document and that other options besides those listed do exist. For pricing information you will need to contact the manufacturer of each item.

This information is also available on the resources page of the pSMILE website.
